About Gigi The Planner
Meet Gisla Augustin
Founder & Principal Planner
Gisla Augustin is a South Florida native, planning professional, and community advocate who makes planning more understandable and accessible. Her municipal planning and zoning experience in Broward and Miami-Dade counties gives her firsthand insight into development review, permitting, and the challenges that property owners and project teams encounter.
Through Gigi The Planner, Gisla helps clients understand zoning requirements, evaluate property possibilities, coordinate development applications, and navigate municipal review. She draws on her experience to anticipate requirements, address issues early, and reduce avoidable delays.
Gisla earned a bachelor’s degree in Urban Design, with a minor in Geographic Information Systems, and a master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Florida Atlantic University, completing her master’s at age 21. She was featured in Legacymakers: 100 Women of Distinction at Florida Atlantic University.
Leadership & Community Service
Gisla’s commitment to planning extends beyond her professional work. She is a former Chair of the American Planning Association’s Planning and the Black Community Division and has served as Chair of the City of West Park Planning and Zoning Board since 2018.
Over the years, she has volunteered on numerous other boards and committees, contributing her time and expertise to community service and local decision-making.
Gigi The Planner’s founding mission—to increase Black representation in planning—continues to inform her commitment to education, mentorship, and helping people understand how planning shapes their communities.
